 What does Carlsbad have in common with other Southern California cities and

how is it unique? Join us this spring as the Carlsbad Historical Society
hosts a series of free local history lectures.

Carlsbad Historical Society Sunday History Series
at 2pm

February 12- The Missions to Statehood to the Violent 1850’s by Murray Levy, Ed. D.

March 11- The Railroads, Boom & Bust to Early Hollywood by Murray Levy, Ed. D.

April 15– Retracing Carlsbad’s Past by Susan Schnebelen Gutierrez

May 20– History of Oceanside by Kristi Hawthorne

Murray Levy, holds a PhD. from USC in Education, is a member of the Carlsbad Historical Society, and Vice Chair of the Carlsbad Historical Preservation Commission. Murray recently moved to Carlsbad after living and working many years in Pasadena California as City Historian, Historical Docent for the Pasadena Tournament of Roses and Sierra Club historical walking tour leader for Southern California cities.

Susan Schnebelen Gutierrez, MLIS from SJSU is a member of the Carlsbad Historical Society, local historian and author of Windows on the Past: an illustrated history of Carlsbad , CA. Susan worked for many years as the Carlsbad City Historian
in the Georgina Cole Library.

Kristi Hawthorne is the author of “Oceanside: Where life is worth living” (2000) and the President of the Oceanside Historical Society
